The Review: Kricket Shoreditch

Bursting with bold flavours and vibrant plates, Kricket Shoreditch is reason enough to make the journey east.

Tucked away in the heart of Shoreditch, Kricket blends modern Indian cuisine with a laid-back London cool. Opened in March 2025, this Shoreditch location is the third outpost from the Kricket team, following the success of their Soho and Brixton spots. Seating around 70 guests, the restaurant offers a mix of high tables, cosy booths, counter seating at the open kitchen, and a tucked-away private dining room for more intimate gatherings. Open seven days a week, it’s perfectly suited for both a casual midweek supper and a full-flavoured weekend feast.

Settle in – what followed was a journey through spice, smoke and soul, where every dish told a story and every bite packed a punch.

We kicked things off with a trio of small plates that set the tone for the meal – punchy, playful, and elegantly put together. The Bhel Puri, a Kricket staple, was a moreish medley of puffed rice, tamarind, and yoghurt, offering a riot of texture and tang. The Purple Sprouting Broccoli Badami was a surprising standout – charred to perfection and dressed with an almond-rich sauce that added a creamy warmth. But the dish that had us reaching back for seconds was the Recheado Butter Prawns – smoky, spicy, and slicked with a luscious Goan butter sauce that clung to every bite.

The main event saw the arrival of richly layered curries and grilled delights, each one expertly spiced and beautifully balanced. The Mangalorean Chicken Gassi was a soul-warming bowl of comfort, with the coconut and gundu chilli bringing depth without overwhelming heat. The Claypot Baked Cod Curry, served bubbling in its pot, was a highlight – silky coconut cream with hints of green chilli and ginger, perfectly matched with the flaky cod. A side of Jeera Pulao added a delicate, cumin-kissed lift, while the Masala Naan, warm and blistered from the tandoor, was the ideal tool for mopping up every last drop.

As you approach Charlotte Road, Kricket’s Shoreditch outpost is immediately recognisable – the building is drenched inside and out in an ethereal Jaipur Pink, a hue the team describes as a marker of warmth, friendship, and relaxed hospitality. The interiors reflect that same spirit – inviting, lively, and full of personality. Alongside the main restaurant and bar, Shoreditch is also home to Kricket’s first Kafé – an all-day lifestyle space designed for everything from a working breakfast to a quick coffee, or a lazy catch-up with friends.

Throughout the experience, there’s a clear intention: to create an atmosphere that inspires the senses, combining the energy of the kitchen with the craft of delicious and memorable food. There’s a genuine sense of hospitality that elevates the entire evening. It felt, for a moment, as if we'd been whisked away from East London to the bustling, spice-scented streets of Mumbai.

Modern Indian food, done exceptionally well. Shoreditch has gained another gem – and this one’s not to be missed.
