Matthew Williamson Tea

With Fashion Week fast approaching once more, Balthazar are thrilled to have paired up again this year with world renowned British fashion designer Matthew Williamson to create another delicious tea inspired by his catwalk collections.

 

Balthazar is already an Ellidore favourite ever since it opened in the heart of Covent Garden, sharing the Flower Cellars with the London Film Museum, this building is soaked in history as was once the spot for the permanant flower market, built for flower sellers in 1870!

 

Of course it offers far more than tea, with its classic yet delicious bistro food, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as weekend brunch – however currently we have tea on our minds thanks to the fantastic Matthew Williamson.

Matthew Williamson’s autumn/winter 2015 collection takes inspiration from the twelve signs of the zodiac birthstones to influence the rich jewel colour palette.

 

Aquarius – Garnet

Pisces – Amethyst

Aries – Bloodstone

Taurus – Sapphire

Gemini – Agate

Cancer – Emerald

Leo – Onyx

Virgo – Carnelian

Libra – Chrysolite

Scorpio – Beryl

Sagittarius – Topaz

Capricorn – Ruby

 

The aesthetic of the collection, embodies the bohemian Brit girl, mirroring the stylish fashion crowd that dine at Balthazar.

 

Balthazar’s head pastry chef Regis Beauregard, has been working hard putting together the fine ideas of Matthew Williamson’s designs, with desserts such as a traditional choux pastry filled with a fresh yuzu curd, a meticulously crafter macaroon bursting with fresh blueberries with violet consomme jelly and white chocolate, as well as 5 other cake masterpieces.

Of course there will also be traditional afternoon tea sandwiches, with coronation chicken on white bread, smoked salmon on brown bread to name a couple.

 

Of course no tea is complete without the tea itself or one of Matthew’s finely crafted cocktails, working alongside Brian Silva, Balthazar’s bar manager to come up with the Cosmic Cocktail – a heady mix of Campari, Mandarine Napolean and sugar, topped with champagne!

Matthew Williamson has commented saying

I am delighted to be collaborating with Balthazar again to create this afternoon tea. The pastry chefs have captured not just the jewel tones of our winter collection but motifs of the brand like a hummingbird crafted in sugar. It is wonderful to see the designs translated into cakes and cocktails.’

The tea will be running from today until the 5th February 2016 so there is plenty of time to get your fashion fix (there is even a totally gluten free version!)
